What's New For the 2020 Nissan Maxima?

The 2020 Nissan Maxima is part of the midsize sedan nameplate's eighth generation of production. For this model year, the Safety Shield 360 suite of active safety technologies are now standard on all trims. Also, Nissan made the ride and handling updates on the Maxima, and the mid-level SR trim gets a few upgrades that include a 360-degree camera.

Which Features are Available for 2020?

The 2020 Nissan Maxima is split into six trims, which are the S, SV, SL, SR, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve. The midsize sedan has two rows of seats to seat up to five people. Front seating comprises an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel facing them. The rear consists of a 60/40 split-folding seatback to expand cargo volume when needed.

At the SV level, the cabin is enhanced with leather seat trim (in place of cloth), power lumbar support on the driver's seat, and steering-wheel and front-seat heating. Front-seat cooling appears at the SR level and up, and it is the only trim with a driver-side memory system and aluminum sport pedals. For comfort and convenience, the 2020 Maxima starts with features such as cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a smart key system with push-button engine start, remote engine start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphone integration, Bluetooth wireless connectivity for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, hands-free text messaging, an eight-speaker stereo system with a CD player and AM/FM radio, the Advanced Drive-Assist Display for reducing distraction when on the road, a three-month trial subscription to the SiriusXM All Access package, two USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack, NissanConnect infotainment system, and an 8-inch touchscreen display.

At the SV level, the Maxima is upgraded with navigation, HD Radio, three-month trial access the SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and two additional USB ports. The SL is spruced up with a garage-door opener and an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system. On the Platinum and Platinum Reserve trims, Nissan introduced a pair of NissanConnect Services subscriptions-three-year Select and 6-month Premium Plus packages. These handle functions and services such as remote door lock/unlock, vehicle health reporting, automatic collision notification, roadside assistance, and stolen car locator.

2020 Nissan MaximaThe 2020 Nissan Maxima is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which has an output of 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. It is tied to a continuously variable transmission. The Maxima has a front-engine front-wheel-drive layout.

2020 Nissan MaximaSafety Shield 360 combined six driver-assist systems, which are lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, and automatic rear braking. Other standard safety features on the 2020 Maxima include a rearview camera with rear parking sensors, vehicle dynamic control and traction control, a rear door alert, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, an integrated dynamics-control module (which combines active ride control, intelligent trace control, and an intelligent engine brake), eight airbags, and a theft-deterrent system.

Upper-level trims are more likely to have additions or enhancements such as a 360-degree camera, intelligent cruise control and lane intervention, front parking sensors in addition to the rear ones, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention alert.
