What's New for the 2019 Nissan Altima?
Newly redesigned for 2019, this mid-sized sedan is poised to give its rivals a run for their money. The new look is clean, sleek, and slightly bigger than its predecessor, most noticeably with the eye-catching addition of a taller front grille and reshaped front lights. The new Altima sits lower to the ground and has been upgraded to the floating-roof design already found on the flagship Maxima, creating the illusion of a more spacious model than in previous years.
Also new this year is an AWD option, a first for any Nissan sedan. The V-6 found in the Altima predecessors has also been replaced with a new 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine.

Five Iconic Trims to Choose From
There are 5 trims available in 2019, starting with cloth-covered S and SV and upgrading to the leather trimmed SR, SL, and Platinum models.
The ProPilot Assist system is standard on the three upgraded trims, giving drivers adaptive cruise control and some steering assist without true hands-free driving. The SR, SL, and Platinum also come with the all-new rear, automatic emergency braking, designed to prevent any mishaps while the car is in reverse.
The new Altima comes standard with all the by-now expected tech gadgets like an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, Siri Eyes Free, Google Assistant, and keyless ignition.
Which Engine Options are Available for 2019?
The top of the line SR and Platinum models can be upgraded to the new variable-compression 2.0-liter inline-four engine, giving these models 248-horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine on all trims is the 2.5-liter inline-four that achieves 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. All trims are outfitted with Nissan Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission.
The 2019 Nissan Altima Is a Well Rounded Vehicle
All trims come with automatic emergency braking in the front, a driver-alertness sensor, and a forward-collision alarm. The biggest surprise anywhere on the 2019 Altima is the addition of the AWD option. This is a first for any car in the Nissan lineup and gives the Altima a distinct advantage over its competitors. The option is available on all trims but can only be paired with the 2.5-liter engine.
