There are many midsize SUVs to choose from, but when it comes to looks, luxury and technology, Murano is a clear standout. It was also Cars.com’s winner in a recent midsize SUV faceoff, which pitted the 2015 Murano against the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Both sport utility vehicles were assessed in several areas and in the majority of cases the Nissan Murano came out on top. Just a few areas in which the SUV excelled included technology and entertainment, cargo space, interior quality and overall value. In fact, when it came to the question of whether or not it was “Worth the Money,” editors had this to say:
“It's hard to ignore the multimedia system glitches in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and its reliability overall when talking value … Murano takes the cake with its ultra-modern design, inside and out, cargo usability plus Nissan's better track record [of reliability].”
Editors pointed out that the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s Uconnect multimedia system is known to be glitchy. Even during their assessment of the SUV, the audio system stopped working and they couldn’t figure out how to get sound to come out again. When using the 2015 Murano’s multimedia system with an 8-inch touch screen, the interface was easy-to-use and had “nifty” features for customizing system settings.
When it came to stowing items, editors said it was easier to load up the Murano than the Grand Cherokee. Part of the reason is because the Jeep is higher off the ground than Murano, making it more difficult to reach the cargo bay. The Murano also had 3.3 cubic feet more cargo space than the Jeep.
If you desire an SUV with an upscale interior, Murano’s top-of-the-line Platinum trim is a good option, and a similarly equipped Grand Cherokee Limited will cost more out of pocket. Plus, editors said the Platinum Murano’s interior is “clad in richer materials with a more contemporary design” than the competing 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited.
