2020 Nissan Frontier

What's New For the 2020 Nissan Frontier?

In 2020, the Nissan Frontier trades its previous two engines and transmissions for a new mechanical system. Now, all trim levels are powered by a V6 engine that produces over 310 HP. This engine is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission that offers more precise driving performance and power. Previously, you had the option of a five-speed transmission or a manual transmission.

As before, you still have a choice of drivetrain with the 2020 Nissan Frontier. On the inside, the latest Frontier gets a slightly refreshed center console design. Nissan is holding off on significant changes to this year's model, however, because it is anticipating the release of a fully redesigned Frontier for the 2021 model year. The latest Nissan Frontier also loses a trim level this year to leave a total of four vehicles in the lineup.

What Features Are Available for 2020?

This year's Nissan Frontier family starts with the base trim called the S. The S comes equipped with some technology and a durable interior. The S features a two-wheel drive powertrain and an optional extended cab configuration. This trim level includes air conditioning for climate control and rear privacy glass for convenience. It has comfortable cloth seats and provides a choice of a four-speaker or six-speaker sound system. A USB charging port is a welcome convenience, and you also get an auxiliary jack.

The base trim is equipped with a seven-inch display screen that has Bluetooth and voice command. This trim has 15-inch steel wheels. The SV, which is the next trim, gets larger 16-inch wheels. It also has a backup camera, rear parking sensors, and more power accessories. A sunroof, heated front seats, an auto-dimming mirror, and dual-zone climate control are available as add-on amenities. The Desert Runner is offered in two cab configurations. It adds unique styling cues inside and out, along with fog lights and high-performance shocks. The Pro-4X, which is the top trim, is the most adept at tackling the dirt trails. This trim gets sport-tuned shocks and skid plates. It also has a touchscreen display with navigation. A separate Rockford Fosgate sound system with ten speakers is standard on the crew cab editions.

2020 Nissan Frontier Powertrain Options

This year, the Nissan Frontier gets one engine across the lineup. This engine is a 3.8L with six cylinders. It produces up to 310 HP and 281 LB-FT of torque. Depending on the trim you choose, you'll get either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is standard on the top trim and its only available powertrain. All trims get a standard nine-speed automatic transmission this year.

Packed With Safety Features

All trim levels of the Nissan Frontier get essentially the same safety features. All trims have seat belts for all occupants and airbags that offer protection in case of a forward or side collision. A backup camera and parking sensors are included on the Frontier this year. The infotainment system also gets some safety technology. A voice recognition, steering wheel-mounted controls, and hands-free phone usage are all safety highlights of the 2020 Nissan Frontier.
