Nissan wants to revolutionize the way you drive and the IDS Concept is a big step in the right direction. Its futuristic converting cabin is pretty unbelievable. You have to see it to believe it, so check out the video below to get a glimpse and find out about some of IDS’ most notable features.
The Nissan IDS Concept really sets new benchmarks when it comes to the idea of what a connected car can do. It has more than a few neat technologies up its sleeve - from greeting its owner, “Good Morning, [Insert your name here],” to greeting pedestrians with polite messages like “After You” and “Stopping,” which lets cyclists and those walking by know that their presence has been acknowledged.

The car’s modes are also very interesting. Taking autonomous driving to new levels, Pilot Drive Mode handles steering, braking, acceleration and all things performance related, and when in this mode the car’s interior layout converts (image above). The steering wheel recedes and advanced voice- and touch-controlled information displays appear at the front of the vehicle, with social media feeds, route and weather updates, and even notifications if a friend is in the area. In addition, all four seats move slightly inward to enhance comfort and create an environment in which conversation is encouraged.
On the flip side, Manual Drive Mode puts vehicle owners in control, though sensors, cameras and laser scanners also work nonstop to assist drivers in staying safe, plus they aid the car when it’s in autonomous mode. Furthermore, a head-up display appears on the windscreen, providing vital information in an easy-to-see location so that drivers don’t have to look down.
Developing ways to enhance EV performance was also key when creating the Nissan IDS Concept. To do so, an aerodynamic, streamlined body design and advanced lightweight materials were used - and these aspects help increase range, too.
