The 12th Annual Penguin in the Park 5K Run/Walk is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Decatur. Held at Fairview Park next to Millikin University, this special event, supported by famed runner John “The Penguin” Bingham, encourages local families to get out and become active regardless of their individual fitness levels.

Known for promoting walking in long-distance races, Bingham has made a career out of holding running/walking events across the country. His mission is to encourage runners to focus on enjoying races rather than concentrating on speed alone. As an alumni of Millikin University, Bingham is scheduled to make an appearance at the Penguin in the Park 5K, and will be handing out awards following the race.

For those who’d like to take part in the race, registration is available online for $25. Parents can also register their children for the 300 meter Penguin Dash; each participant will receive a short sleeve t-shirt, goody bag and finisher ribbon. Following the race, attendees will then have the opportunity to head over to the post-race party in Millikin Griswold Gym. Food, awards and prizes will be handed out at this time.
