Did you know that 1 in 5 fatal crashes is caused by drowsy driving? According to recent data, roughly 300,000 accidents a year are caused by driver’s falling asleep at the wheel and approximately 6,400 of them are fatal. This is an epidemic that Nissan hopes to minimize with a new driver-protection system that you can find on current and upcoming new models at Crown Nissan.
Standard on the hot new 2015 Murano SL and Platinum, and soon to come as standard on the all-new redesigned 2016 Maxima Platinum trim (arriving later this year), Nissan’s innovative Driver Attention Alert (DAA) feature will help reduce fatal accidents involving drowsy and inattentive drivers.
The intelligent new feature establishes a baseline of your personal driving style, monitoring steering inputs with advanced steering wheel angle sensors. It’s also designed to monitor brake usage, lane changes, poor road conditions and road curvature to more accurately assess when a driver may be nodding off at the wheel or not paying attention. If DAA detects that your driving pattern has strayed from its normal baseline, it emits onscreen and audible warning signals, indicating that you should pull over and take a break from driving.
Coincidentally, the announcement of Driver Attention Alert took place near “Drowsy Driving Awareness Day” on April 6, 2015. DAA accompanies the Murano and soon-to-come Maxima’s available safety technologies, which include rear cross-traffic and blind-spot warning systems.
