No matter how many times you visit, the Children’s Museum of Illinois never gets old! Featuring two floors that are filled with interactive exhibits, this museum makes learning fun and exciting!
Named as one of the top 25 children’s museums in the U.S., CMI first opened its doors in 1990; however, after rapid attendance gains, plans were created for a new facility. Today, the new CMI building couldn’t be located in a better area, it is situated on the gorgeous shores of Lake Decatur, adjacent to the Scovill Zoo, which is another must-see attraction.
Since opening in 1995, the new 20,000 square foot castle-like building has become a huge hit in the Decatur area. With numerous exhibits and activities offered throughout the year, you and your kids are sure to love it here!

Get your children involved and excited about things like circuitry and physics in an interactive environment through the “Make Space” exhibit, which is absolutely perfect for children 13 and under.
For your littlest ones, another ongoing exhibit is called, “Tinkering Toddlers,” which lets you work alongside your child to show them how to work with different materials to make things like a cardboard dog or a car made out of spools!
We hope you and your children will visit the CMI soon and discover all that it has to offer!
