This weekend, the streets will be filled with green hats, streamers and floats for the city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Take part in the excitement on Saturday, March 15, 2014, in downtown Decatur. There will also be a run that starts before the event; those who participate can dress up in green St. Patrick's costumes and all runners receive special T-shirts, free food and green beer at the post-race party!

Whether you go to run or go to watch, you're sure to have lots of fun! The runners will start the event off early near the courthouse on 377 S. Franklin St. in downtown. They'll begin 15 minutes prior to the parade at 10:45 a.m. and will then lead the parade up Wood Street to the bar/restaurant Lock, Stock & Barrel on Oakland Avenue. The run is about two miles and if you would like to join there is still time to register. Call 217-429-7411 for more information.

Decatur's St. Patrick's Day celebration has been a popular tradition since 1978. Every year, the streets are packed and herds of kids come out to get candy. It's an all-around great family event and there are also plenty of fun things to do after the parade!
