Christmas in Downtown Decatur

There’s no place like Decatur for the holidays! Starting on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, Downtown Decatur will come alive with the sights and sounds of Christmas, offering a variety of ways for you and your family to get in the holiday spirit.

One of the most anticipated events of the season is the Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, which takes place on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. This decades-old tradition brings a healthy dose of holiday cheer to downtown, exciting crowds with glittering floats and pizzazz-filled performances. This year’s theme is “It’s A Wonderful Life,” which draws inspiration both from the classic film and the beauty of everyday life here in Decatur.

Santa Claus also makes an appearance at the annual parade before heading over to his home away from home, Santa House, in Central Park. He will be available for photos and meet-and-greets following the parade, as well as several other dates throughout November and December.

Another can’t-miss holiday event in Decatur is the annual Heritage & Holly Tour, which runs Nov. 24-25 in Near West Side. Now in its 27th year, the tour celebrates the rich history and architectural treasures of our city, starting at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and ending at the Holt House. Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 at the door.
